(New) Home for the Holidays

Mersey and Ivan had no troubles making themselves comfortable in their new home.

Well, we decided to leave Windsor behind, and made the move into our place on the Gaspereau Mountain! Just in time for Christmas! In a somewhat spontaneous, somewhat premeditated, and fully chaotic (as always) fashion, we decided that Windsor was no longer the place for us.

For months—or years even—I have been desperately craving privacy, seclusion, and quiet. Moving from Halifax to the suburbs of Spryfield was the first step. Moving from the suburbs of Spryfield to the small town of Windsor was the second step. And now moving from the small town of Windsor to the decidedly more rural, forested, and quiet Gaspereau Mountain is step three.

Step four is a work in progress. We are (and have been for a long time) searching for our dream land somewhere in this wonderful province. We’re dreaming of 50+ acres of land, on a creek, river, or lake…rolling hills…dense forest that we can carve hiking trails into…etc.

That’s what we’re dreaming of. But for now, the peaceful Gaspereau Mountain is nothing short of blissful.

Michael made some whimsical Christmas garlands with pompoms and silver thread.

I’m feeling very lucky to be here, and to be able to spend Christmas in such a wonderful place. And of course, we’re already dreaming up some changes that we can make to this house to make it more of our own. Yes, we’re searching for our slice of heaven, but we could be here—and happy—for a short, medium, or even a long time. In the meantime, I am counting my blessings, slowly unpacking, and enjoying the peace and quiet.

She’s a beauty!

As per tradition (this is year two!) we cut down our Christmas tree in the backyard here on the Gaspereau Mountain. Last year we drove the tree back to Windsor, but this year we just had to pull it inside!

The lighting installation team. Mersey may have been taking his supervision role a little too seriously. Ha!
